This is a wonderful machine, that on the road fast, small, lightweight and durable. To get the most out of it, follow the instructions here, ie, 2 GB RAM upgrade (to use the site essential for correct number of the RAM module (it should be PC6400 800 MHz no longer work.) Mine came with Windows 7 beginners might want to go higher. I updated my Windows 7 Enterprise (from work), which is similar to Windows 7 Ultimate. We recommend that you update the BIOS as well.
I removed the software that came with it are bloatware. Upload your own software for this and treat you, no problem.
The only problem (well, make that two) was wireless. Q: My only associated with the detection capabilities, the network is not protected when you try to connect to a home network, which is a non-Media, Personal WPA2-AES, 802.11n only network, but not immediately. Update the latest drivers from Acer site wireless adapter (version 8.0.0.259) does not help. It took me two days to find a better driver from the manufacturer, was installed and solved the problem immediately. So if you have this problem and find the Atheros chipset AR5B95 seek driver version 8.0.0.279.
Which brings me to another complaint: customer service. These people are a bunch of idiots who are dumb jobs than their complaints with a series of standard samples, copy and scripts, plug in their responses. Why? In my email, I said: “… the driver has been updated since the last 8.0.0.259 Acer support site …” I received this response (15 minutes):
“You can follow the link and update the wireless driver to solve the problem.
[...]
simply because my argument is “Wireless: Can not connect! And there’s no way to increase my problem to the next level.
Another e-mail response from them is an idiot (”Start Windows in Safe Mode and try “!!!) wireless and then nothing. If you are someone who relies on the support of the manufacturer, you may consider selecting something else. Himself to live 10 minutes from the headquarters in the U.S., so at least I’ll drop and complain about them (that’s my plan, if you can not work without wires).
And so: Netbook is 5 stars, but the maintenance is -5 stars.

A few glitches, but a good buy
I had a Dell netbook, but made the mistake of convincing my husband he would like it for travel. Now I can’t get it back so I had to buy another one. I like this machine because it has a much better touch pad than our Dell netbook. It also does not have some of the keyboard idiosyncracies I found with my Dell.
The down side of this unit is that the USB ports don’t seem to be quite right. I can make them work, but you have to work a little bit to plug/unplug a USB cable. It’s nothing that stops me from using it, just a little annoying.
The thing that convinced me to buy this Acer instead of another Dell was that it is preloaded with Windows 7. Unfortunately, I did not realize before purchasing that it is only the starter edition of Windows 7, so you don’t get all the features. If I want to pay to upgrade, I can, but that seems a little ridiculous. I paid for an operating system, not a PARTIAL operating system.
Be forewarned that if you are loading a prior version of Outlook onto Windows7, there is a known issue with email passwords. No fix as of yet.
Overall, I recommend this machine, as the only real problems I’ve had are related to software, not the netbook.

I bought this netbook for a trip across the country. It travels well, is lightweight, has a good screen resolution, and surfs the internet quickly. The USB ports are great for accessories and for importing or exporting files. Love the red cover!

Failed since the first boot…
When I first turned on this netbook, I got a black screen and the boot process never finished. I tried several times and got 2 satisfactory, but sloooooow, start ups only. I took it to an authorised tech support in Colombia and they found out that the bios was outdated and the mainboard was faulty.
Aside of that, the systems is preloaded with too much useless stuff. If a netbook is intended to be a light PC, why does Acer insist on fill Win7 Starter with an endless list of accessories and proprietary applications. These are not even to be used on the net!
My best choice was to format everything and install a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition. Priceless decision!
