Am I at risk of electrocution if I try to repair my tv myself?
I have a Panasonic CRT HDTV that I bought about 4 years ago. About a year ago, it just stopped turning on. I would like to try to fix this myself, but I don’t know how. I unplugged it shortly after it died, and it hasn’t been plugged in for about a year. First of all, is there still a risk of electrocution?
Secondly, I read that the AC fuse blowing is a common problem with this model TV. I’m assuming this is the issue. Does anyone know whether or not this part is pretty generic – like if I walk into a radio shack, will I be able to easily find this part? Also, where is this part in the TV, and what does it look like?

Yes, the cathode ray tube is in essence one giant capacitor. Capacitors hold charge for a long time, doesn’t matter if it’s still plugged in or not. I’ve gotten an electrical shock from a capacitor before, and it’s…well, a bit painful. In the case of CRT electrical shock, it’s not the electricity that will hurt you, but the loss of muscle control resulting in injury.
When in doubt, call a TV repairman.
