water on the motherboard of a laptop – repair?
I have a Dell Latitude C640 laptop that had water spilled on it from overwatering a plant. Water came in near the ac adapter plug. Now the laptop is totally dead. Plugging in the AC or battery, I get no lights – nada. Can this be repaired by me? If so, how is the best way? Any schematics of this model other than the general info on the Dell site? I have taken apart laptops before. Thanks.
First, let it dry to prevent further damage.
In cases like that 3/4 of the times it’s your power adapter that burns (Water on the plug shorts it out). If you have a multimeter, plug it in and see if it has voltage to it and if it’s correct (It might be labeled 18V and give you 9v etc) that would give you a faulty power supply (If it’s that you can replace it under warranty Dell can’t tell it was water damage 
). If it works and it’s the motherboard it’d be VERY hard to do it if you have no experience or help I advise not doing it yourself. You can try taking it apart and putting it back together (Reseating the components to clean oxidation etc..) but you have to be very careful to use the correct tools not to damage it (some alcohol swabs will be good too).
!!!Make sure you battery is not in it when you work on it!!!
